Do yo want to know how to make beef broth? Well you’ve come to the right place.
Here is the bare bones, super simple, easy peasy, beef broth recipe. Make a big batch of this wonderfully nourishing elixir and you are good to go. Either enjoy plain as a health drink or mix it into a madras curry (or something similar) for a tasty healthy kick.
There are many ways to make beef broth, some are complicated works of art and others are….like this simple, minimalist recipe.
So, as beef bones are quite big and heavy, you are going to need to simmer the broth for abit longer than chicken broth. I generally simmer mine for about 48 hours, but usually any time over 6 hours is enough. The longer the simmer time, equals more nutrients that are drawn out of the bones.
Ingredients
- 1 kg of Beef bones – organic if possible, (any sort of bones, such as soup bones, beef short rib, shin bone, etc….)
- fresh water
- 2 tablespoons of vinegar, (preferably app;e cider vinegar).
Method
- Put all the bones in a big pot and add the water, until covered.
- Add the 2 table spoons of vinegar.
- Heat the pot, bones and water on a stove top until boiling. Continue to boil for about 15-20 mins.
- Reduce the heat to a really low simmer. there should be just a few small bubbles rising thought the broth every 30 seconds or so.
- Continue to simmer on low for 6 to 48 hours.
- Once you have grown tired of watching the broth slowly simmer for 6 to 48 hours or so, you can take off the heat.
- place a colander in another big pot and line the colander with muslin cloth, (to act as a fine sieve).
- Tip the bone broth mix into the colander and sieve the liquid.
- Collect the sieved broth liquid.
- Store appropriately or use right away.
And there you have it. Super easy and simple to make. super nourishing and super duper healthy.
If yo are wondering, the vinegar causes the bones to leach out all their nutrients and goodness.
If you are using a slow cooker or crockpot, then once you have finished boiling the bones for 15-20 mins then transfer the liquid and bones into your slow cooker; simmer on low for 6 to 48 hours.
